Hazard Mitigation Grant Program Meeting

Elmore County EMA has been notified by the AlabamaEmergency Management Agency (AEMA) that Elmore County will receiveapproximately $52,046.36 from FEMA in hazard mitigation grant funding. We arereceiving this mitigation funding as a result of the December 2015 storm eventsin which Elmore County was included in a Presidential Disaster Declaration.Counties that were declared following that event are eligible for hazardmitigation funding.

Changes have been made to the Hazard Mitigation Programin order that local jurisdictions prioritize their projects rather than theAEMA prioritizing the projects. As part of these changes, now we are told atarget dollar amount to apply for so that we do not spend time needlessly indeveloping project applications that would never be funded. In order toidentify and prioritize the local projects we must convene the members of ourlocal Hazard Mitigation Planning Committee (our Multi-agency CoordinationGroup) to go through the process of identifying and prioritizing our potentialprojects that may be funded through this program.

Please accept this correspondence as your invitation toattend the meeting on July 12th, at 9:00 a.m. at the Elmore County EmergencyOperations Center (EOC). At this meeting, we intend to identify potentialmitigation projects, prioritize the projects we as a group decide to go applyfor and go over the process and timeline for the application process. If youragency or organization is interested in being present at this meeting to assistwith identifying potential mitigation projects and prioritizing the projectsthat are identified we would like for you to attend. We want this process to beopen to all of our stakeholder agencies across Elmore County.
