2026 Guided Crater Tours | AL Crater Week

Explore one of Alabama’s most remarkable natural landmarks during the 2026 Guided Crater Tours, part of Alabama Impact Crater Discovery Week (AL Crater Week). Hosted by the Wetumpka Impact Crater Commission, this volunteer-powered experience offers rare guided access to the Wetumpka Impact Crater, formed about 85 million years ago by a meteorite impact.

Guests travel by guided van to key stops around the crater, where expert interpreters explain how it formed, the science of impact craters, and why Wetumpka’s site is nationally significant. Each ticket includes a keepsake Crater Guide Booklet, with optional souvenirs available.

Tour proceeds support the Commission’s work in preservation, education, and stewardship, helping protect this world-class geological site while expanding science learning opportunities across Alabama.
