About the event

Alabama Impact Crater Discovery Week (AL Crater Week) is a week-long series of educational programs, guided experiences, and community events centered around the Wetumpka Impact Crater, one of the most significant geological features in the southeastern United States.

This special week brings together scientists, educators, students, and curious explorers to learn how a meteorite impact helped shape Alabama’s landscape and continues to influence research, education, and discovery today. Events throughout the week may include guided hikes and tours, lectures, stargazing, school outreach, and hands-on learning experiences.

AL Crater Week is designed for all ages and backgrounds. No scientific experience is required, just curiosity and a desire to explore one of Alabama’s most remarkable natural stories.

Discover the impact. Explore the science. Experience Alabama’s crater.
